A. When it comes to the patina of your custom golf ball marker, it’s all about the natural materials—specifically copper and brass. These metals are highly reactive, meaning they undergo changes in appearance over time as they acclimate to different environments. This is part of what makes each marker truly unique!
You may notice subtle shifts in coloration, which is simply the metal developing its own personality through the patina process. We think it’s a really cool feature that adds character to each piece, but we just wanted to make sure you’re aware of this natural and expected transformation. Thanks for understanding!

Item Hand-stamped ball markers are made by striking each letter or number into the metal by hand using traditional stamps. They’re best for initials, names, dates, and simple designs, and each one has natural variation.
Pro: Every piece is truly one-of-a-kind, with character you can see and feel — plus hand-applied paint fill for added contrast.Laser-engraved ball markers allow for custom logos, symbols, and detailed artwork. They’re ideal for one-off designs that can’t be created through hand stamping.
Pro: Clean, precise reproduction of your exact design with a subtle, engraved finish — no paint fill, just raw metal detail.description -
A. You can personalize your golf ball marker with almost anything! Since we use metal stamps to create the designs, you’re limited only by the stamps we have available in stock. Fortunately, we offer a wide variety of design stamps for you to choose from, and you can add any wording, numbers, or simple details you like.
If you’re looking for something more specific, such as a logo or custom artwork, be sure to check out our laser engraved options in the next section for more detailed customization possibilities!

A. When placing a custom ball marker order, it’s important to count your characters correctly to ensure accurate pricing. Each letter or design stamp equals one character. For example, if you include a phrase like “KEEP POUNDING” along with a design stamp (such as a paw print), that would count as 13 characters total.
We trust customers to calculate their characters and place their orders accordingly. If your order exceeds the number of characters you’ve paid for, Johnston Gray may request additional payment. Please note that orders with more than 30 characters may incur additional charges.

A. Golf ball markers are used to mark the exact position of a player’s ball on the green, allowing them to pick up the ball for cleaning or to avoid obstructing another player’s putt, while maintaining its location for later play.
Beyond their practical purpose, ball markers are also a fun way to showcase your personality and make your mark on the game. Whether through custom designs, meaningful symbols, or unique phrases, a personalized marker can add a bit of flair to your round and make the experience uniquely yours.

A. Metal ball markers offer several advantages over plastic ones, making them a preferred choice for many golfers. Beyond their durability—metal markers are built to last much longer than plastic—they also bring a more premium, personalized touch to your game.
If made from materials like copper or brass, these markers develop a patina over time, giving them a distinctive, evolving appearance that reflects your personal style and the miles they’ve traveled with you on the course. Metal markers can be custom-stamped with meaningful designs or words, making them not just functional tools but also keepsakes that grow more unique with age.
